Between 2019 and 2021, Chimera produced six issues of the periodical, including a Women in Sport issue featuring 2023 Women's World Cup goal-scorer Thembi Kgatlana and a special UWC 60-year anniversary edition. The aim? To produce slick internal marketing communications that served multiple purposes to the University community: entertainment, education, information.
A gradual transformation
In updating the magazine's brand identity, it was important that the original masthead and title were retained as the magazine was still in its infancy. Chimera leaned into the institution's corporate colours, making the gold pop slightly for the masthead only, and incorporating the rest of the colours strategically in icons, other symbols and numbers to draw attention to the copy. We also used our expertise in photography and graphic design to create eye-catching layouts that combined photography and typography that grabbed readers' attention.
